Split:
The trip to Split would have to be the craziest journey so far on our eurotrip… After getting a train to Trieste (a city just near the border of Italy and Croatia), we thought we could jump on another train down to Split, only to find out that there were no trains running to Split, only buses… Soooo… We booked the bus, then while waiting we asked how long the trip would take… She said “4″… Which I thought would be 4 hours… But wanted to double-check, so Ally went up and asked this time… And she said 4am! So the bus trip was 11 hours, and we arrived at Split at 4am…
- When we got off the bus, the lady who manages the hostel met us there – yes, at 4am – and drove us to the hostel in her car! Talk about service! Really nice Croatian lady too
Also, we found out it wasn’t a hostel, but an awesome apartment! By far, the best paid accomodation I’ve stayed in on my trip so far
So nice, had our own laundry, bathroom, kitchen – just like a resort apartment
- We crashed at around 5am and slept in a fair bit after all the rough travelling
Wondered out of the apartment at around 2pm to be greeted with an awesome scene – the amazing Split harbour on a beautiful sunny day, clear blue skies and an incredible view of the old town
Very very cool to see - The next day after doing some shopping, had a good wonder around the old town of Split… Very nice area, got some cool photos… Perfect weather once again!
.
Dubrovnik:
- On our last full day on the Croatian coast, we headed down on a bus to Dubrovnik, which we didn’t really plan too well - the bus ride was 5 hours each way, and we left fairly late in the day which gave us very little time to see the sights of Dubrovnik… We quickly ran around old town for no longer than an hour before we had to start heading back
Still got some good pics of the place - After checking out the next morning, we reserved our train ticket and did some shopping through the local markets while waiting for the train to arrive
- The train ride to Zagreb itself was pretty awesome, first travelling along the coast before heading through some amazing countryside… Made me love croatia even more!
.
Zagreb:
- After a heap of delays, and finding out the hostel in Ljubljana we booked didn’t allow guests to check in after 8pm, we arrived in Zagreb way behind schedule… so we decided just to find a hostel and stay in Zagreb for the night (Croatia’s capital city)… So after having some dinner at this cozy little pizza place, we pretty much went straight to bed and headed to the trains first thing after checking out
.
Apart from the transportation dramas, I can look back now and realise that Croatia was definately my favourite country to visit in Europe
(so far anyway)… Probably the best coastline I’ve ever travelled along, and that’s saying something as I live along one pretty incredible coast
Just another beautiful place that I highly recommend
